Brett Baty Perfect Game: Baty Homered His First Time Up in the Big Leagues

New York beat Atlanta 9-7 on Wednesday night, ending the Braves’ eight-game winning streak. Brett Baty hit a home run in his major league debut, and Starling Marte hit two.

The Mets, leaders of the NL East, stormed out to a 6-1 lead and narrowly held on to win, increasing their lead over the Braves to 4 1/2 games.

The game ended after Vaughn Grissom hit a two-run single in the ninth, but the victory was sealed when Trevor May got Ronald Acuna Jr. to fly out to the warmup track.

Baty, the Mets’ first-round draught pick in 2019, stepped up to bat for the first time in the bottom of the second with a man on base and

the Mets are up 2-0 after a pair of solo home runs by Yoenis Cespedes and Lucas Duda in the top of the first inning off Jake Odorizzi (4-5).

Baty became the fifth player in Mets history to homer in his first at-bat by connecting on a hanging curve on his first swing.

Without even recording a hit, the Braves could knock off Matt Scherzer (9-2) in the seventh inning.

Over 6 1/3 innings, he was responsible for four runs despite allowing only three hits, three walks, and eight strikeouts.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — New York, who had been struggling, beat Tampa Bay with a walk-off grand slam from Josh Donaldson in the bottom of the 10th inning, just as the clock struck midnight.
