Empress Season 2 Potential Release Date: Who Will Be in Season 2

Netflix users, like everyone else, love a good steamy period drama. The streamer has taken us back in time to 1854, when a defiant princess marries the Emperor of Austria, becoming Empress of Austria and entering the political world of the Viennese court.

Even though Netflix hasn’t officially greenlit season two, there’s plenty of material to work with after that shocking cliffhanger, and lavish period dramas tend to do well on the streaming service. For proof, enquire with The Crown or Bridgerton.

Given that, when can we anticipate a new season, and what will it be like? This is everything we know about Season 2 of The Empress so far.

The Empress Season 2 Potential Release Date

Stop what you’re doing and hold your horses (or carriages). As the premiere of The Empress occurred just last week, it is obviously too soon to tell if the show is successful enough to warrant a second season (September 29).

Its future on Netflix, like that of most other shows, is tied to viewership numbers. So, relax and hit the “next episode” button if you’re still hungry for more.

We’re not too concerned just yet because it took Netflix an entire month to announce the renewal of Bridgerton after its huge debut in December 2020.

Who Will Be in Season 2

Devrim Lingnau, who plays Elisabeth von Wittelsbach, aka Sisi, on The Empress, will almost certainly return for the show‘s potential revival. Because without The Empress, there is no such thing as The Empress.

Following her example, we might see the following:

Phillip Froissant as Emperor Franz Joseph
• Melika Foroutan as Sophia
• Elisa Schlott as Helene
• Johannes Nussbaum as Archduke Maximilian
• Jördis Triebel as Princess Ludovika
• Hanna Hilsdorf as Amalia
• Svenja Jung as Louise
• Raymond Tarabay as Ambassadeur De Bourqueney

As always, there’s the potential for some new faces to join too.

The Empress Season 2 Plot: What Will Happen?

After visiting the iron factory and giving her shoes to a young girl in need, Elisabeth is imprisoned within the palace gates at the conclusion of The Empress for violating royal protocol.

Elisabeth gives in to despair when she realizes nothing will be done to aid the needy, and she begins spending her time with Franz’s brother Maximillian, further tarnishing her reputation via her binge drinking.

When Archduchess Sophia finally had enough of the defiant Empress, she suggested that the Empress return to Bavaria with her husband Franz, who had a heated argument with his wife and accused her of sleeping with his brother.

But just as Franz is about to advise Elisabeth to leave, she finds out she’s expecting. But the Empress is too distraught to tell her husband the news.

By the time Elisabeth is ready to leave, a massive, enraged crowd has gathered at the palace gates to denounce the Emperor, blocking the exit completely. Even though the guards ask to have the carriage turned around, Elisabeth insists that the gates be opened.

The Empress, watched by Franz and Sophia, announces her pregnancy to the crowd with an enthusiastic “I see you” and a public embrace.

Is she able to sway public opinion with her actions? To what extent has she forgiven Franz? In light of her pregnancy, what goals does Sophia hope to accomplish?

If Netflix approves a second season, we hope to get answers to these questions and more.
