The birthplace of Gavin Escobar is New York, where he was born on February 3, 1991. The son of Erin and Harry Escobar, he was born to them. He was born to Puerto Rican parents who had settled in the United States. At Santa Margarita Catholic High School, Escobar attended. In high school, he excelled at both football and basketball.

On the back of a football scholarship, Gavin attended San Diego State University. He was an Aztec football player for three seasons (2009-2012).
