It’s finally time for the 2022 MLB All-Star Week in Los Angeles, and Dodger Stadium will be hosting this year’s festivities.
There will be a Home Run Derby before the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night, which features some of the best hitters in the game.
Pete Alonso, the first baseman for the New York Mets, leads the pack in the Home Run Derby. It is Alonso’s goal to become the first driver to win the event three times in a row.
Aside from Ken Griffey Jr., no other player has ever won three consecutive Home Run Derby crowns.
Alonso will face a difficult path to a second championship. Rafael Alonso beat Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. with a game-winning home run in the 2019 Derby semifinals.
Other players to watch include Kyle Schwarber. There are 26 home runs by Schwarber in the National League, and he will be the first seed in the field.
Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals will be Schwarber’s first-round opponent.
Barry Bonds set the record for the oldest Home Run Derby participant at 39 years old, but Pujols will break that record when he competes at 42 years old.

Home Run Derby Rules Will Change in 2022
The Home Run Derby has an eight-man bracket and a head-to-head format. By hitting more home runs than their opponent in the allotted time, a player can become champion.
The first and second rounds of the derby will each have a three-minute time limit. Two minutes are allotted for the final round.
Following each round, each competitor will receive an additional 30 seconds. If a hitter hits a home run that is at least 475 feet long during the regulation period of that round.
they will receive an additional 30 seconds of bonus time.
The clock stops and the round is over when a player hits more home runs than their opponent. Each head-to-head matchup is decided by the player who hits the most home runs.
As long as the pitch leaves the pitcher’s hand before the timer runs out, a home run is considered to have been hit.
Each round, the batters are allowed one timeout. For a total of 45 seconds, a timeout is granted. During bonus time, you are not allowed to take a timeout.
Predictions for the 2022 Home Run Derby
My first two picks are Schwarber over Pujols and Nationals prospect Juan Soto over José Ramrez, both on the left side of the bracket. I’ll take Soto over Schwarber in the semi-finals to reach the final.
I’m going with Alonso over Ronald Acua Jr. on the right side of the bracket. Be prepared for the most exciting first-round matchup of the tournament.
The Dodgers’ Corey Seager will get the nod over the Mariners’ Julio Rodrguez, a 21-year-old rookie, in the other game. To reach the final, Alonso will have to knock out Seager.
Pete Alonso will win the championship over Juan Soto. In the field, only Schwarber has more home runs than Alonso, and we already know how well he does in this environment. We’ll go with Alonso for a three-peat because he’s got a great story to tell.
