Jimmy Johnson Net Worth: Coaching Career, Entertainment Career & Relationships

Johnson had a very successful run in charge, culminating in back-to-back Super Bowl victories. Jimmy became a sportscaster and analyst after retiring from the Miami Dolphins.

Jimmy Johnson Early Life

On July 16, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas, James William Johnson entered the world. He had an early interest in football throughout his time at university. While in high school, he crossed paths with a few future celebrities including Janis Joplin and G.W. Bailey.

Once Johnson completed high school, he enrolled in the University of Arkansas, where he was quickly recruited to play football. During the subsequent period, the Razorbacks achieved unprecedented heights of success, and Jimmy was named to the all-Southwest Conference defensive line.

Notable players such as Jerry Jones (future owner of the Dallas Cowboys), Ken Hatfield, Loyd Phillips, and many others also joined the Razorbacks. Not only that but the Razorbacks were led by Frank Boyles, who is universally regarded as one of the best college football coaches of all time.

Johnson must have benefited greatly from his time spent in the lineup with Broyles, and he must have learned a great deal of valuable tactical insight. The Razorbacks won the 1964 national championship after a perfect season. Jimmy’s knack for getting right back up after being tackled earned him the moniker “Jimmy Jumpup,” and he never stopped being an important team member.

Coaching Career

In 1965, Johnson got his start in the coaching profession as an assistant at Louisiana Tech University. He worked as an assistant coach for several years before taking over the defensive line at Oklahoma University. After graduating from the university in 1973, he went back to be the defensive coordinator for the Razorbacks, his old master. At the University of Pittsburgh, he served as associate head coach and defensive coordinator in the 1977–1978 school years.

Jimmy’s career as a head coach began in 1979 at Oklahoma State. Later, as head coach of the Miami Dolphins, his squad would go on a tear, defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks by a score of 51-7. Johnson was considered as taking retribution because he was interviewed for the head coaching position at the University of Arkansas before he was informed that someone else had already been chosen.

In 1989, Johnson started his professional career with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. His leadership was instrumental in the team’s transformation and its subsequent Super Bowl victories in 1992 and 1993. Johnson and owner Jerry Jones had disagreements, and in 1994, Jimmy agreed to leave for $2 million. Johnson was hired as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 1996, but he never lived up to the hype. In 1999, he decided to call it quits.

Entertainment Career

Johnson was able to make a smooth transition from coaching to the entertainment industry. He’s done a lot of work as a Fox Sports analyst, and he’ll be a regular contributor to “Fox NFL Sunday” starting in 2020. Jimmy is a natural fit as a reporter for major college football games like the Bowl Championship Series. Johnson also contributes to Foxsports.com with his writings.

Johnson’s acting career has taken off as well, with guest spots on popular shows like “The Shield” and “Coach.” His cameo in “The Waterboy,” starring Adam Sandler, was also confirmed. Johnson is most well-known for his appearance on the season of “Survivor” which was filmed in Nicaragua in 2010. Jimmy enjoyed himself, but he also called it “stressful,” and his health was in jeopardy the whole time.

Throughout his career, Jimmy Johnson has appeared in numerous television advertisements as a paid spokesperson for a variety of different companies. These companies include the infamously fraudulent Leading Edge and the more reputable Procter & Gamble and ExtenZe.

Relationships

Jimmy’s first wife was a woman named Linda Kay Cooper, whom he wed in 1963. They had two kids together before calling it quits in 1990. Johnson married his second wife, Rhonda Rookmaaker, in 2010.

Restaurants

It’s safe to say that Jimmy Johnson has kept fairly busy in the restaurant industry. In Miami, he runs a successful eatery known as Three Rings. While he initially had a second restaurant site open in Oklahoma City, only the Miami outpost is still functioning at this time. Johnson also operates a business in Key Largo known as JJ’s Big Chill, a bar and restaurant.

Real Estate

Jimmy Johnson has kept an expansive home in Islamorada, Florida, in the Florida Keys, for a long time now. Unfortunately, he discovered that life in this area wasn’t without its challenges when Hurricane Irma reportedly caused extensive damage to his property in 2017. Johnson found a lot of depressing things when he got back to his house after the disaster.

As a result of the high winds and water damage, his dock was leaning. Jimmy disclosed that the sand had accumulated to the point where he had to use a shovel to access the entrance of his home.

The saltwater pond owned by the coaching great was also wiped off. It’s hard to fathom how much of a financial loss this catastrophe must have represented for Johnson, who had spent the previous twenty years transforming this house into his dream residence.

However, unlike many other residents of the Florida Keys, the main house and guest house on his property are still standing. Johnson was reduced to tears by Hurricane Irma’s devastation, but he has pledged to spend millions rebuilding his property. Please visit TheActiveNews.Com for further updates.
