Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s husband of almost seven years, has filed for divorce.
On June 4 in Los Angeles, the singer of Because of You filed court documents to dissolve her marriage using her married name Kelly Blackstock.
Clarkson, 38, said that the divorce was brought about by irreconcilable differences and asked that she not be obliged to support Blackstock, 43, financially.
The document declares that the pair had a prenuptial agreement and requests that the singer’s legal last name be changed back to Clarkson.
The papers indicate that the date of Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce is “TBD.”
The vocalist of Since You’ve Been Gone and Blackstock are parents to two children: River Rose, age 6, and Remington Alexander, age 4.
Seth, 13, and Savannah, 18, are the children of talent manager Blackstock, who is also the father of Clarkson’s former manager.
The couple got married in October 2013, marking Clarkson’s first marriage and Blackstock’s second.
According to People, Clarkson and Blackstock first met at a 2006 Academy of Country Music Awards rehearsal. 2012 saw the couple’s engagement.
Redbook published an interview with Clarkson in which she discussed her marriage to Blackstock and said, “To keep it family-appropriate, let’s say we’re just a lot more active than other couples.”

According to Clarkson, their relationship began because she wasn’t searching for a buddy when she first met Brandon. I have many wonderful buddies.
