Kenny Rogers Farewell Concert: Filmed Before His Death

The CBS performance special “Kenny Rogers: All In for the Gambler,” which was filmed before the death of the country-pop legend, is scheduled to air later this month.

The epic concert from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on October 25, 2017, will be televised live on ABC at 9 p.m. ET/PT on September 23 and will feature performances by Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, Lionel Richie, Reba McEntire, Little Big Town, Lady A, and Idina Menzel.

Though he didn’t sing for very long, Rogers did take part in the 2017 event that was described as his swan song following a retirement announcement. He died on March 20, 2020, at the age of 81.

At the end of the tribute, Parton and Rogers performed three songs together: a duet of “You Can’t Make Old Friends” and a rendition of “Islands in the Stream,” sandwiching a performance of “I Will Always Love You” by Parton, who sang the song with her arm around Rogers.

Fan favorites include Reba McEntire’s “Reuben James,” Reba McEntire’s “Through the Years,” Little Big Town’s “The Gambler,” Chris Stapleton’s “The Gambler,” and Lady A’s “She Believes in Me” will also be featured on the program.

Many performers weren’t able to fit into the special’s allotted time slot, including the Flaming Lips, thus their performance of “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town” that night will remain a mystery to anyone who wasn’t there.

Executive producers Keith Wortman and Ken Levitan said in a joint statement, “Kenny Rogers’ immense effect on country music was equaled only by the affection all the musicians and fans showed Kenny on this great night.”

“He will always be in our hearts, and we are so happy to share something special with his friends, family, and fans all around the world.”

Blackbird Presents, who previously organized “Biography: Kenny Rogers,” was in charge of this concert, as well as others honoring artists including Willie Nelson, John Lennon, Dr. John, Mavis Staples, Gregg Allman,

Emmylou Harris, and Merle Haggard through broadcast and/or live events. Visit TheActiveNews.Com to get the latest news and updates.
