Rodman Early Life
Basketball player Dennis Rodman was born on May 13, 1961, in Trenton, New Jersey. According to the available evidence, Rodman is the oldest of his father’s rumored 47 offspring.
There was no misspelling there. Even more bizarre, Dennis’s father’s name, Philander, is a play on words for the name of a famous philanthropist. Shirley, Rodman’s mother, worked multiple jobs in Dallas to provide for the family when his father abandoned them and moved to the Philippines.
It wasn’t until 2012 that he saw his dad again. Following his high school graduation from South Oak Cliff, Rodman took a job as a nighttime janitor at DFW Airport. Due to his little stature, he was not allowed to try out for any high school sports teams.
But after an incredible growth surge, he reached 6 feet 7 inches and gave basketball another shot. After one semester of playing on the team, he was dismissed from Cooke County College owing to his failing grades. When he was ready to continue his education, he transferred to Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he excelled and was named the team’s MVP.
