Shonka Dukureh Cause of Death: Actor Has Died at the Age of 44

Her body was discovered in the bedroom of her Kothe Way apartment, where she lived with her two young children, according to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Force.

As soon as one of the kids discovered Dukureh unresponsive, he dashed to a neighbor’s apartment for assistance. After that, the neighbor dialed 911.

The medical examiner’s office in Davidson County, Tennessee, has yet to release a manner of death, but authorities don’t suspect foul play.

“My heartfelt sympathies to Shonka Dukureh’s family. Mayor John Cooper of Nashville tweeted a statement about Shonka, who graduated from Fisk University and has lived in Nashville for a long time.

On this sad day, we remember her strong voice and artistry, which will live on through her music.

Earlier this year, Dukureh spoke with Shadow and Act about her time on the Elvis biopic.

This has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to doing it again,” she said. “It was all a dream,” I said to myself. My dream didn’t even exist until I got there and experienced it all for myself. It’s been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a life-altering experience.”
