Glenn Greenwald, David Miranda’s spouse and a writer, tweeted that the Brazilian lawmaker had p@ssed suddenly after nine months in intensive care. He has reached the age of 37.
Greenwald, who has two adopted boys and raised them with Miranda, tweeted:
“It is with the most profound sadness that I announce the p@ssing away of my husband @DavidMirandaRio. He would have turned 38 tomorrow. His de@th, early this morning, came after a 9-month battle in ICU. He d!ed in full peace, surrounded by our children and family and friends.”

In 2019, Miranda will begin his term in the Brazilian Congress, having previously served as one of Rio de Janeiro’s first openly g@y city council members. According to CNN, Miranda withdrew from her reelection bid in September 2022 after she spent six weeks in the intensive care unit with a stomach infection.

Who is David Miranda?
Brazil’s political figure David Michael dos Santos Miranda. On May 10, 1985, he entered the world. From 2019 until 2023, he served as a Federal Congressman for Rio de Janeiro state.
He left the Socialist Liberty Party (PSOL) and joined the Democratic Labour Party (PDT) in 2022. Previously, he served on the City Council of Rio de Janeiro. Time magazine has recognized Miranda as a rising global leader for 2019.
Miranda was born in Rio de Janeiro, although she grew up in Jacarezinho. He went to live with an aunt after his mother p@ssed away when he was just five. He left home at 13, dropped out of school, and spent the next six years at minimum-wage jobs.
While playing volleyball with Glenn Greenwald on Ipanema Beach in February 2005, he acc!dentally knocked over Greenwald’s drink. They were living together for less than a week after their first meeting. After Greenwald strongly suggested that Miranda go back to school, Miranda enrolled at Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM) and graduated in 2014.

Greenwald’s former wife, Miranda, is also out as g@y, and he is open about his s*xual orientation. The couple adopted two cousins that same year (2017). Miranda was admitted to Clnica So Vicente in Gávea on August 6, 2022, to treat a gastrointestinal infect!on.
