Who is Jim Brown?
James Nathaniel Brown was an American football player, civil rights activist, and actor. He played fullback with the Cleveland Browns of the NFL from 1957 through 1965. Brown is widely regarded as a legendary NFL player and a true great among running backs.
He played in the Pro Bowl every year he was in the NFL, was awarded the league’s MVP three times, and led the Browns to a championship in 1964. He was the league’s leading rusher eight times in nine seasons, and when he finally retired, he still held most of the major running records.
He was named the greatest NFL player of all time by The Sporting News in 2002. Brown made the switch to acting before his football career ended. He left football at the peak of his abilities to focus on acting.
He had numerous notable parts and amassed 53 acting credits in the 1970s. He became known as Hollywood’s first black action hero after starring in 100 Rifles (1969), one of the first films to include interracial love scenes.
