Witcher Season 3 Trailer Drops and Fans Call for Series Finale

While Seasons 1 and 2 of The Witcher were critically acclaimed, the reception to the first official trailer for Season 3 has been overwhelmingly negative. The audience appears to be prepared to call this season the final one.

Posts showcasing the Witcher teaser on social media have been deluged with comments complaining about the program’s visual style and that they would no longer watch the show now that star Henry Cavill has left.

In addition, many critics seem to be pointing fingers at the streaming service for dividing the season in two, with many speculating that this was done to capitalize on Cavill’s popularity before he left the show. Season 3 of The Witcher will consist of eight episodes, and Netflix has already announced that the season will be released in two volumes.

Volume 1 will feature episodes 1 through 5, while Volume 2 will include episodes 6 through 8. The program’s first half, Volume 1, will be published on June 29, and the second half, Volume 2, will be released on July 27.

Since Season 2, Netflix has remained silent in the face of criticism of the show, much of which has focused on the show’s departures from the characters and events depicted in the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Even though filming for Season 5 of The Witcher will begin simultaneously with Season 4, rumors have surfaced that the streaming behemoth may not renew the show beyond that. Keep in mind that any official sources have validated none of these rumors.

Why Henry Cavill is Leaving The Witcher?

The cancellation of Season 4 of The Witcher and the casting of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia were revealed in October 2022. No one has verified the reasons behind the shift. However, creator Lauren S. Hissrich has promised an explanation before Season 3’s launch.

However, comments by former series writer Beau DeMayo, who implied the writer’s room actively disliked and mocked the books and games, also contributed to the backlash. Hissrich says the rumors are not true.

Cavill, who is well known to be a dedicated fan of The Witcher, reportedly departed the program because he and the show’s creators had fundamental philosophical differences. The idea of finding a new Cavill dates back to the post-production stage of Season 2. The Witcher’s first two seasons can be viewed entirely on Netflix.
